Welcome, September! We are gradually saying goodbye to winter in South America.

Have you made any plans for your upcoming vacation?

Truth? You’ll feel better by tonight if you make your next vacation a priority!

And if you feel overwhelmed with so much information –no worries– it’s just the #1 challenge every well-traveled person has when visiting South America!

To help you plan your next trip, we’ve compiled our Top places for your winter sun holidays in South America.

best summer destinations in south america

First of all, when thinking about the best destinations to visit in South America in Summer, remember that the southern hemisphere seasons are reversed, which means that summer runs from December to March, Autumn from April to June, winter from July to September, and springtime from September until December again.

South America offers diverse options no matter what time of year one visits; there will always be a region to explore!

In Summer, not only will your trip to South America have great weather, giving you a chance to enjoy its best attractions, the most amazing beaches, as well as its famous festivals, but some places, like Patagonia, are more accessible, particularly in the far south.

Summer is also high season in many places like Brazil, Patagonia, and the Atlantic coast; beaches, festivals, and new year’s eve celebrations are busy, although worth the try. At the same time, it’s the best time to visit Patagonia.

The Austral summer months are ideal for visiting the southern tip of South America since winters make it a bit unkind for travel here.

The options are immense, and I couldn’t mention them all here, BUT it’ll give you an idea of what regions you should visit on your next vacation.

So, let’s dive in and get inspired to plan your bucket list-worthy trip to South America in Summer.

Exploring the Breathtaking Nature: Patagonia & Antarctica

If you are an adventurous traveler, South America is waiting for you with plenty of incredible destinations.

Hiking in Patagonia during the summer months is an incredible idea, not only because the beauty of nature is at its best but also because the weather is friendly and welcoming.

The spectacular Torres del Paine National Park in Chile, the fascinating Perito Moreno glacier, and Fitz Roy in Chalten are just a few examples that will amaze your eyes.

Wildlife lovers, who choose the summer season for their trip, will have the chance to enjoy the charming penguins in Peninsula Valdes and Ushuaia, as well as an incredibly diverse marine fauna in Antarctica.

My Custom trips recommendation for the summertime in Patagonia:

✔️ Antarctica & Patagonia Tour Small Expedition Cruise to Antarctica

✔️ Exclusive Patagonia & Australis Expedition Cruise: Patagonia Highlights

The rainy season for the deserts: Atacama & Uyuni

The most extensive salt flats in the world, Uyuni ( Bolivia) and Atacama ( Chile) deserts, are in their rainy season during summer.

So, this is the best time to visit the deserts; you will be able to admire the overwhelming beauty of the mirror effect, the most amazing natural mirror in the world!

As you can imagine, this is also when most tourists come to this area. So, expect it to be crowded.

ECO & NATURE Galapagos Experience

The Galapagos Islands are a year-round destination suitable for travel and cruises any month of the year. But that said, the best time to visit the Galapagos Islands is from December to May.

Why?

In these months, you can enjoy the warm and clear ocean conditions which are perfect for snorkeling and diving. Although it may rain briefly, the bright and sunny days keep the vegetation green and the wildlife active.

If you’re a fan of nature, you’ve probably dreamed of visiting the Galapagos. It’s an incredible place where you can see evolution happening right before your eyes – almost like a science experiment come to life!

The islands are a rich mix of active volcanoes, stunning beaches, and abundant, tame wildlife that’s not afraid of humans.

Here we may see penguins living side by side with sea lions and iguanas, prehistoric giant tortoises, the only nocturnal seagull, the only truly marine lizard, and the only flightless cormorant in the world.

Relaxing on a Spectacular South American Beach

If you want to get closer to the culture and daily life in South America while also relaxing on its sunny beaches, our best summer season suggestion is José Ignacio in Uruguay.

Sunset tasting at Playa Vik Jose Ignacio, Punta del Este Uruguay. The comparisons to the French Riviera and the Hamptons are inevitable. Where else does one see such a mix of glamour and gorgeous beaches? @theinvestor_lifestyle

Jose Ignacio is an excellent choice if you want something chic and fashionable. Relaxing beaches, great restaurants, and a town center filled with boutique art galleries are some things waiting for travelers in Jose Ignacio.

Enjoying a Real South American Party

One of the best summer destinations in South America is Rio de Janeiro.

If you ask me if Rio de Janeiro is really worth visiting, the answer is: Absolutely yes!

I was born in Rio de Janeiro, so I have a special love for this Cidade Maravillosa! ️️

Sharing with you Why you have to go at least once in your life to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

Not only is New Year’s Eve in Rio a spectacular moment, but its famous carnival is a massive color celebration that shouldn’t be missed. The city’s streets and the warm sands of Copacabana Beach will be filled with happy, friendly people, ready to party and watch the spectacular fireworks display together.
